In Japan, most of the governmental inspections are omitted for the ships classed with NK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai).

4. What organizations or agencies can carry out the inspection of ships except the Government and the ship classification societies?
In Japan, "Japan Craft Inspection Organization" carries out the inspection of small crafts. In addition, there are testing agencies for the type approval of the products to be mounted/installed on hoard the ships, and agencies for the certification of the type approved products.

In Japan, the system of the type approval and the system of the recognized workshop are available.

In Japan, the requirements will be determined by each product through the discussions with the Kanto District Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Transport.
